Clinton's meeting with Timoshenko not extraordinary - Ukrainian FM
The meeting U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has had with the former prime minister, Yulia Timoshenko, is not something extraordinary and does not arouse any special interest, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Konstantin Grishchenko said on the Inter television channel.
When asked whether Clinton’s meeting with Timoshenko’s was something more than the American officials’ and diplomats’ tradition to meet with the Opposition during a visit to this or that country, the diplomat said, «There is nothing else in here.»
He recalled that the American authorities’ ongoing dialogue with their foreign counterparts was always much broader than contacts with the current authorities.
«In reality, the Opposition we have is represented by very many personalities. One should hear them all,» Grishchenko said.
Asked about the U.S. secretary of state’s evaluation of the freedom of speech in Ukraine, Grishchenko replied that «Washington has long developed the ability to identify the emotional outbursts by those who are trying to score points, those who for the past five years failed to ensure either the freedom of speech or democracy. It already distinguishes between emotions and the realities,» the diplomat said.
