The World Political Forum-2010 has opened in Yaroslavl
The World Political Forum 2010 has started its work in Yaroslavl today under the patronage of Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev. Over 500 statesmen and politicians, experts and political scientists from 35 countries have come to the meeting.This forum and the first one last year were supported by President Dmitry Medvedev.
«I hope the forum of world significance will set in our city for ever» — said Yaroslavl region’s governor Sergey Vakhrukov, opening the forum.
Today the Forum’s discussions were divided into four sections, in which experts discuss important topics related to Russia’s development in varios fields.
The former NATO Secretary General Lord George Robertson called the World Political Forum, recently opened in Yaroslavl, a «Russian Davos». Lord Robertson called on the participants to start lively discussions. «One should not be afraid of listening, giving reasons, arguing and finding the truth in argument», he said.Lord Robertson also stressed that «this meeting should give Russia a new chance to demonstrate its positive role in the world».
Alexander Rusakov, the Head of Yaroslavl State University said that last year’s conference in Yaroslavl was related to the problems of overcoming the financial crisis. This year the main discussion will focus on post-crisis development of society. He added that the number of experts and participants from different countries can only be compared with «huge collider».
